When Dering Hall asked me to design a room based on a favorite movie for their Wired + Inspired digital showhouse, The Darjeeling Limited immediately came to mind. I knew it would be fun to play off of the India train car setting, using Wes Anderson's meticulously selected color palette.
I panelled the wainscot in a cognac color leather with brass strapping. The walls are upholstered in a blue and white chevron fabric, which is a pattern I saw often when I was in Udaipur (one of the locations for the movie.) I selected a campaign desk because it was indicative of train car travel with a saffron colored desk chair to tie back to the hotel robe warn in the movie. The rug is an Indian antique and the taxidermy hen in the glass case is a nod to Wes Anderson's quirky sensibility.
