I am inspired by this serene West Village townhouse done for Kiefer Sutherland by SR Gambrel. The restrained color palette and mix of organic materials gives the house an understated elegance. It is hard to tell whether the Gothic arches were original to the architecture but they are a nice twist on the typical Greek Revival brownstone.

Hugo Grenville at Wally Findlay
Hugo Grenville's work will be exhibited this month at the Wally Findlay gallery in NYC. I am typically not drawn to pastel colors but there is a hopefulness to his painting that really draws me in.
He describes his work in this show by saying, "We live in troubled times, but the paintings in this catalogue are inspired by the belief that the recognition of beauty is transformative, that we can be uplifted by it, and that we can celebrate its sheer delight. There is both a comfort and pleasure to be found in harmonies of colour and the balancing of shapes. The arrangement of light, line and the selection of different palettes, that work like the limitations imposed by a key and time signature in music. They are tools to express a sense of optimism, contemplation and serenity. "

The Rug Company
I just received The Rug Company's new product book and it reminded me what a fabulous company they are. After 14 years they seem to be getting better and better. I especially love their collaborations with fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen, Marni, Paul Smith and Alice Temperley. They not only use the finest Tibetan wool for their rugs but they put the same thought and care into merchandising their products. The visuals in the book are stunning!

Alan Wanzenberg + Remains Lighting
Architect Alan Wanzenberg and Remains Lighting recently teamed up to produce The Taghkanic Studio Collection. Their line of table lamps, consists of five handcrafted ceramic and wooden lamps, made individually by artisans in New York. I think they would be perfect for a project I am working on at the beach.

The La Cornue Kitchen
I always enjoy attending the Architectural Digest Home Show to see the latest products in home design. This year my favorite booth was from La Cornue, the century old producer of enameled French ranges and rotisseries. They have expanded their product line to include custom metal and wood cabinetry as well as sinks, and accessories. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail is absolutely exquisite in person.

Miranda Brooks
Now that the weather is feeling a bit more like spring I have been thinking about gardens. I have always loved landscape architect Miranda Brooks' work so I was pleased to see her Brooklyn home featured in Vogue. I usually prefer a more polished look, but there is something so charming about her casual elegant style. It is amazing that they live in the city and have a rooftop rabbit hutch for their bunnies Peter and Bun Bun. (The pony seems to fit right in but it was just for the shoot!)

The White Barn Inn
The White Barn Inn, located in Kennebunkport Maine, is one of my favorite winter destinations. The inn is known for it's restaurant, which is located in a 1820's converted farmhouse. They have a unique way of balancing a rustic barn (featuring country antiques in a hayloft) with unparalleled food and service. It is a combination that is quintessentially New England.
